PE at Woodhouse Primary School
PE and sports activities encourage children to develop physical skills, fitness and an understanding of the importance of a healthy life-style. We teach the National Curriculum for PE and we offer a wide range of extra-curricular provision to encourage activity for all of our children.
We are fortunate to have extensive playing fields and the school hall is equipped for elementary gymnastics, traditional games, dance and movement. Children are expected to wear their PE kit for each PE lesson. All children take part in competitive team sports such as cricket, netball, football, dodgeball, lacrosse and rounders. Children are encouraged to develop a healthy attitude towards competitiveness and also develop their individual skills and talents. Sports’ Days and our Inter School Longford Park Athletics event are enjoyable and important events on the school calendar.
It is a requirement of the National Curriculum that all primary school children are taught to swim. Children in year 3 have a weekly swimming lesson at a local swimming pool. They are taught how to swim and how to be safe in the water.
Our sports premium funding enables the school to invest in additional sports specialist coaching and also enables teaching staff to have access to local continuous professional development. This provides pupils with high quality teaching and coaching in and out of PE lessons. We have a regular P.E. blog which reports on after school clubs, lunch time clubs, our sports teams and any special sporting events that take place in or outside of school. We are delighted that our commitment to sport in school has resulted in a Sports Mark Gold Award.
