Music at Woodhouse Primary School

At Woodhouse Primary School we follow the National Curriculum for Music (2014). Music teaching involves singing opportunities, instrumental opportunities, composing, improvising and performing.

We use and adapt the Charanga digital music resource to suit our school and to ensure continuity and progression within music teaching across year groups.

Every child has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Trafford Music Service provide support for the teaching of the recorder in Year 1 and a woodwind instrument in Year 4.

Opportunities are also provided by Trafford Music Service for our children to perform with professional musicians in large scale, high quality experiences such as ‘Come and play with the Halle’ and to get involved with National initiatives such as the BBC Ten Pieces.

Individual instrumental tuition is also provided by Trafford Music Service who also offer a school choir.

Where possible, music is integrated into other curriculum areas to support learning and throughout the school year there are opportunities for performance such as Christmas plays and our Summer-Singalong.
