Music

Music at Woodhouse Primary School

At Woodhouse Primary School, it is our intent that we make music an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Our teaching focuses on developing the children’s ability to understand rhythm and follow a beat. Children explore creativity and expression using different instruments which includes voice, body percussion, techniques and technology to create musical compositions. Through singing songs, children learn about the structure and organisation of music. We teach them to listen and to appreciate different forms of music. Children develop descriptive language skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent different feelings, emotions and narratives. They are all given the opportunity to learn how to read musical notation, play an instrument and communicate their learning to others through performance. Further opportunities for the children to learn other instruments are also provided to Year 2 and Year 4 by Trafford Music Service. The children then perform with professional musicians providing high quality experiences such as ‘Extraffordganza’ at the Stoller concert hall in Manchester.
